Four great day trips from Chateau Couchebout to visit the UNESCO World Heritage Sites:
Bordeaux, Saint Emillion, The Citidel of Blaye and Lascaux Cave
The bus tour in Bordeaux is the best 45min tour to get all the history points and lets you see the areas to walk back to for further investigation.
Saint Emilion's history goes back to prehistoric times with fascinating Romanesque churches and ruins stretching all along steep and narrow streets. Take the little train tour through the vineyards, hear the history, stop and explore a cave followed up with a tasting.
The Citidel of Blaye is home to a yearly Spring Wine Festival - April 2017. Saturday morning market and BEST crepes inside the walls.
Some of our other favorites are:
The Great Dune of Pyla: Is the tallest sand dune in Europe. Fantastic hike to the top for breath taking views of the Archachon Bay.
Arcachon: After a morning on the Dune come down to the bay and enjoy fresh Oysters, Seafood Platters, or perhaps a little sunbathing. Popular sun bathing location on the Atlantic coast 55 KM SW of Bordeaux
Bourg: Quaint port on the Dordogne River. Sunday morning market, historical wash house, great little village for a walk and a beer or two.
Biarritz: Playground, a promised land for golfers, surfers, Basque Pelota and rugby players, and other devotees of sea water spa therapy, health, fitness and relaxation.
San Sebastián: Sun and Fun what more could one need - oh yeah Tapas in Old Town San Sebastian.
